Jason Cundy claims Chelsea star who played 37 games last season could now leave, ‘watch this space’

It’s going to be interesting to see how many players go through the exit doors at Chelsea before the summer transfer window shuts.

Now that the Club World Cup is over, where Chelsea were crowned champions, there will be a few quiet weeks while first-team stars take a well-deserved holiday. Will we see the Blues kick into gear and offload some of their unwanted players during this period?

Several Chelsea players are currently training at Cobham as part of a group who want to leave this summer because they are not part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.

As we’ve seen with Noni Madueke, who’s reportedly on his way to join Arsenal, even some of the Chelsea players who were in the Club World Cup squad may face uncertain futures, too.

Jason Cundy warns Nicolas Jackson could now leave Chelsea

Jason Cundy, the former Chelsea player and talkSPORT pundit, has claimed he can imagine Nicolas Jackson exiting Stamford Bridge in the current transfer window.

When asked if Jackson may need to leave Chelsea, Cundy told talkSPORT: “Well, that has been mooted. There is a conversation I’ve heard that Chelsea are open to offers on Jackson. So that right now, watch this space. Now we’ve come back from the Club World Cup; maybe now some business will start being done.

“We’ve all seen it; he’s the third choice right here, right now. But he’s one of those players who’s played enough games not to accept third choice. He was number one last season; now he’s number three. On a personal level, he might have to think, ‘I need to play’.”

Last season, Jackson was the clear first-choice striker in Chelsea colours, scoring 13 goals in 37 games across all competitions. Incidentally, this included 10 goals in 30 Premier League appearances.

However, the arrivals of new signings Joao Pedro and Liam Delap this summer have changed things.

In Sunday’s Club World Cup final, Pedro started the game as the Chelsea centre-forward, while Delap came off the bench as an impact substitute. As for Jackson, he stayed on the bench and didn’t get any minutes.

Pat Nevin rates Pedro over Jackson, insisting he’s a big upgrade in attack. It’s certainly not surprising to hear the latter’s future being heavily discussed because his position in West London appears to have changed rapidly.

Transfer rumours are linking Nicolas Jackson with Chelsea exit

Recent reports claimed that there is a concrete possibility that Jackson leaves Chelsea this summer.

The Senegal international signed a long-term contract with the Blues, expiring in 2033, but the noise is growing louder around him possibly leaving.

Manchester United and Aston Villa have enquired about Jackson as they look for a new centre-forward. Also, Newcastle United are eyeing Chelsea frontman Jackson.

We’ve seen across Jackson’s two seasons in English football so far that he’s capable of great things, but the 24-year-old attacker is still currently too inconsistent in front of goal.
