Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has claimed he would be “very happy” if Mauricio Pochettino becomes the next permanent Chelsea manager.
There’s still five games left to play in this very underwhelming season, but most supporters are already thinking towards the summer.
Frank Lampard, who’s lost six out of six as the caretaker manager, is in charge until the end of the season.
As it stands, everyone is still waiting to hear who will be in the manager’s dugout at Stamford Bridge for pre-season.
Mauricio Pochettino, 51, is the candidate most strongly linked in the media. Journalist Dean Jones has reported on GiveMeSport that Chelsea could even appoint Pochettino this week as the permanent head coach.
Former Blues star Hasselbaink, who was working as a Sky Sports pundit during Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal last night, was asked about the Pochettino rumours.
He’s given a fairly positive explanation of why the Argentine coach could be the right fit as Chelsea’s next manager.
“If he comes in, I’d be very happy because he plays really good football,” Hasselbaink said, as quoted by Football Daily.
“He’s done magnificent things at Spurs. He’s been at a big club, PSG. He’s worked with really big players. He’s won the league. So he knows how it works. But I don’t know what Chelsea exactly wants, but I’d be happy with Pochettino.”
If Pochettino takes the job, Chelsea do have some tools at their disposal which should be perfect for him.
He’s found a lot of success in his managerial career to date exploiting his full-backs and wingers, which is an area of Chelsea’s squad where you can find some hope.
Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, who both caught the eye against Arsenal yesterday, are both exciting wingers with a lot of potential. We would love to see how they develop and learn under a coach like Pochettino.
Also, the club’s full-backs Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella and Malo Gusto should be excited about the possibility of next season.
