Joao Pedro has shared the reasons behind his immediate impact at Chelsea, with many viewing the striker as the signing of the summer.

Chelsea signed Pedro in July, and it did not take long for the 23-year-old to make his mark.

Pedro scored two goals in his new side’s Club World Cup semi-final tie against Fluminense before netting in the final.

Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 that day, with Cole Palmer grabbing both of the Blues’ other two goals. Jamie Carragher has lauded Pedro’s impact so far, and the player himself has now spoken about his quick start at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Pedro credits teammates and Club World Cup goals for early Chelsea success

Pedro was already very familiar with this Chelsea team, having come up against them as a Brighton & Hove Albion player.

That familiarity with Enzo Maresca‘s side and his goals at the Club World Cup have really helped the Brazilian to settle in at Stamford Bridge.

“I already knew the club and the players well from playing against them, so that helped me to settle in quickly,” Pedro told FIFA’s official website. “On top of that, scoring those goals really helped make it easier for me.”

Since scoring those three goals in the US, Pedro has gone on to net twice in the Premier League. He has also registered two assists, proving to be Chelsea’s creative spark in Cole Palmer’s absence.

After a fantastic August, understandably, Pedro made it into WhoScored’s Team of the Month. Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Trevoh Chalobah also featured.

Joao Pedro’s fitness coach explains how he prepared himself for Club World Cup

Pedro was on holiday when Chelsea came calling, but the Brazil international was prepared for his transfer and the Club World Cup.

His fitness coach Rodrigo Goncalves told FIFA’s site: “While he was still on holiday, we started to increase the intensity so that he could be in good shape when he arrived at the Club World Cup, but Joao is very strong mentally and emotionally.”

Maresca now needs Pedro to come through this international break unscathed. While Palmer remains out, the former Brighton man is Chelsea’s most important attacker.

Pedro has not been in west London for long, but he is vital to this Chelsea squad, especially with Liam Delap also on the sidelines. It is thought that he could be out of action for around two months.
