It has been quite a remarkable start for Joao Pedro in his Chelsea career.
Signed for £60m from Brighton in July, Joao Pedro picked up his first trophy with Chelsea during the first couple of weeks of his Blues career. He scored three goals in three appearances to help Enzo Maresca’s side win the Club World Cup.
It certainly looks like the 23-year-old forward will lead the line going into the new 2025/26 season, especially since he scored two goals in two pre-season friendlies last week as well.
Joe Cole is blown away by Pedro and thinks Chelsea don’t quite realise just how good he is yet.

Joao Pedro reveals Chelsea trio who massively welcomed him
As everyone can see, Pedro has fitted into the Chelsea group pretty effortlessly. In fairness, the Brazilian star has joined a squad stacked with plenty of other young talented footballers.
He’s shared that Blues trio Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo and Enzo Fernandez really helped him when he first joined mid-tournament at the Club World Cup.
Pedro said via Chelsea’s official website: “Of course it’s always a difficult moment for a new player to join in the middle of the tournament, but they were very welcoming with me. Reece [James] spoke with me, and Tosin [Adarabioyo], Enzo [Fernandez] text me the first day I joined.
“So they helped me a lot, they tried to make me feel less pressure. I think that’s why I had a good experience in America.”
Chris Sutton greatly approves of the Pedro signing, claiming he looks like such a smart addition from Chelsea.
If the last month is anything to go by, he’s going to be an incredible purchase from the club. It feels like he’s making the step at the perfect time in his career, especially ahead of the World Cup next year.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Watford | 109 | 24 | 8 |
| Brighton | 70 | 30 | 10 |
| Fluminense | 36 | 10 | 2 |
| Chelsea | 3 | 3 | 1 |
We think that Pedro could be Chelsea’s best signing since Cole Palmer, which highlights the sort of impact he’s already made.

The leaders emerging at Chelsea
Even though people have criticised Chelsea’s young group for lacking leadership, we’re noticing several individuals step up in that regard. Incidentally, it’s not surprising to hear Pedro mention he received a warm welcome from James, Tosin and Fernandez.
Chelsea’s leadership group last season included James, Tosin, Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Levi Colwill and Marcus Bettinelli. Apart from the latter, they are all still at the football club.
Back in January, Maresca noticed James improving as a leader, with the 25-year-old right-back growing into his role as the club captain. In fairness, it must be a lot easier for him now that he’s enjoying an extended run in the team and is avoiding injuries.
