Conor Gallagher is a player that Chelsea desperately need to make sure stays at the club.

That is according to Jody Morris.

Conor Gallagher, 23, is a Blues player homegrown from the academy and a key individual in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad this season.

However, that’s not prevented speculation surfacing that the all-action midfielder could potentially be sold and leave Stamford Bridge.

Morris, the former Chelsea player and assistant coach, explained how much he thinks the Blues need to keep Gallagher at Stamford Bridge.

He told Sky Sports’ News channel (10:00am, 1 February): “If you’re talking about Conor Gallagher, he’s been one of the best players we have had this season, the kid is a mad Chelsea fan. His family are all Chelsea. He has been there since he was eight and I bet my house on it that he doesn’t want to leave Chelsea but that doesn’t necessarily mean he is not going to.

“There have been moments before with Conor where it looks like he was maybe looking at leaving the back door, so I hope it doesn’t happen and hope for all match going Chelsea fans it doesn’t happen.”

Chelsea must keep Conor Gallagher

The Times recently claimed that Tottenham were weighing up a last-minute swoop to try sign Gallagher in this winter window.

With just a few hours remaining on today’s deadline day, it doesn’t appear like Gallagher will be going anywhere. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any late drama, though.

There’s got to be uncertainty around Gallagher’s future given his current deal expires in less than 18 months, but perhaps there’s now a bit of time for all parties to try reach a conclusion.

We agree with Morris that losing Gallagher from the squad would be a significant blow!
