Liverpool legend John Barnes is a huge admirer of one Chelsea star and is eager to see how he develops.

Chelsea‘s squad possesses some of the best players in the Premier League, including Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

Estevao Willian also has the potential to join that elite group if his first few appearances in a Chelsea shirt are anything to go by.

It is early days, but Estevao already looks like one of the best young players in English football.

John Barnes suggests Cole Palmer could surpass him

Palmer has not been able to play as much football as he would have liked this season because of a groin injury, but Barnes has not forgotten about him.

The former Liverpool forward recently played a game where he was asked to pick himself or another footballer.

When Palmer’s name came up, Barnes went with himself but said to give the attacking midfielder time, suggesting that he could become a better player than him in the future.

Palmer has made just two starts in the Premier League this term but has still managed a goal, netting in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Brentford.

He also scored in the Blues’ 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, so this ongoing groin problem is clearly not impacting his finishing.

While he was on the losing side on the night, Bayern fans still raved about Palmer’s performance.

Cole Palmer injury update

Enzo Maresca is going to have to cope without Palmer for a bit longer. According to BBC Sport, the Englishman is expected to be out until November.

If so, Palmer will miss games against Nottingham Forest, Ajax, Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Facundo Buonanotte could thus be in line for more opportunities. Had Chelsea signed Jack Grealish from Manchester City, the 30-year-old would probably have been playing in Palmer’s absence.

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Chelsea considered Grealish before his loan move to Everton.
