Chelsea captain Reece James posted an update yesterday to announce that he’s undergone surgery on his latest hamstring problem.

Reece James, 24, suffered a fresh injury setback earlier this month to bring a halt to his season.

The fantastic right-back can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to injuries, which is equally frustrating for both the player and a fanbase that completely adores him.

According to The Daily Mail this week, James is set be out of action for between three to four months to recover from surgery.

It means that the door may not be completely shut on the defender returning in time for next summer’s Euro 2024 tournament, where England will travel to Germany as one of the favourites to win it.

Chelsea announcement

James confirmed via his Instagram on Thursday evening that he’s had surgery and is now on the road to recovery.

He received a wave of support in the comment section from both past and present Chelsea players.

Former Blues defenders David Luiz and John Terry were among those to offer words of support for the 24-year-old star after the injury announcement.

James, who’s played 156 first-team games in Chelsea colours so far, can be so influential to his side. It’s why Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino appointed him the club captain in the summer.

Unfortunately, he’s now got another spell on the sidelines and he needs that support from the Chelsea family during a very frustrating period.

Let’s hope that this can be the final significant injury blow to a player with limitless potential when fit.

In the meantime, Malo Gusto is the obvious replacement in the Chelsea squad to try fill the major void at right-back. We’re optimistic that the 20-year-old talent possesses another quality both offensively and defensively to plug a huge hole in the next few months.
