It has been claimed that Thomas Tuchel was keen to sign current Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane when he was manager of Chelsea.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has stated that the German wanted to bring the winger to his last two clubs, and now will finally have the opportunity to work with the Senegal international.

Tuchel has recently been named the Bayern manager after the Bundesliga champions made the unexpected decision to sack Julian Nagelsmann.

While there have already been links for the 35-year-old to become the next boss at Chelsea if Graham Potter is sacked, their former coach is not taking long to look to raid his old club.

He has made it clear that he wants Anthony Barry to join him as a coach at the Allianz Arena, however Chelsea are looking for a compensation fee for an under-contract staff member.

Tuchel wanted Mane at Chelsea

While Tuchel has already come knocking, it has been claimed that Kai Havertz is unlikely to make the move despite his personal relationship with the boss.

After his first few days at his new side, Plettenberg has now claimed that he has a player he has always wanted to work with.

He said: “News on Mané: He is looking forward to work with Tuchel. Mané is highly motivated to show why Bayern have brought him in.

“Mané knows that he has to deliver more! He has a good relationship with Tuchel. Thomas Tuchel once wanted to bring him to Chelsea and Paris.”

While Mane was impressing with Champions League and Premier League winning campaigns, he was described as ‘world-class’ by pundit Micah Richards.

However, the fact he was playing for an English rival in Liverpool made it very difficult for Chelsea to even get close to launching an effort to sign the attacker.
