Chelsea made it no secret who they were pushing hard to sign in the final hours of the recent summer transfer window.

On deadline day in particular, the Blues were making a real effort to secure the services of Victor Osimhen on a deal that was very much on their terms.

An agreement couldn’t be reached though, with Chelsea walking away from signing Osimhen very late in the day.

They elected not to sign another striker, putting their faith in Nicolas Jackson to deliver at Stamford Bridge in the coming months.

Osimhen has since moved to Galatasaray on loan, with him having no chance of minutes at all if he had stayed at Napoli.

Chelsea offered better deal for Osimhen than Galatasaray

Matt Law has told the ‘London is Blue’ podcast that he has been told Chelsea had made a superior offer to the Turkish side before the transfer window had shut.

He said: “I’m told their [Chelsea’s] loan offer for Osimhen was better both for him and Napoli than whatever he signed with Galatasaray on loan.”

It has not been ruled out that Chelsea may return with an offer for Osimhen in January, when he is likely to be available for a far cheaper price than before.

The Blues were also linked with Ivan Toney on deadline day, who has since made a move to Saudi Arabia from Brentford.

Chelsea didn’t think Ivan Toney would upgrade Nicolas Jackson

It has been reported Chelsea didn’t see Toney as an upgrade on Jackson, which is why they didn’t pursue the deal to the same extent.

Jackson has already seen his efforts rewarded with a new contract at the club, and he is off to a great start to this season too.

Chelsea believe they got a bargain with Jackson when they signed him two years ago, and he has a few months now to prove that a new striker is not needed at Stamford Bridge.
