Mauricio Pochettino does admire Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz, according to reports.
All the speculation in the media points towards Mauricio Pochettino, 51, becoming the next permanent manager at Stamford Bridge.
According to The Telegraph, Pochettino may wrap up the deal in the next few days to become the Blues head coach next season.
If the Argentine coach was watching yesterday, he couldn’t have been impressed by Chelsea’s 2-0 home defeat against Brentford in the Premier League. Last night was another reminder of the size of the task facing the next manager.
Frank Lampard is currently sinking in his role as caretaker boss, losing his opening five games across all competitions since returning to the club on a short-term basis.
Journalist Simon Phillips has reported that Kai Havertz is an individual that Chelsea’s expected new manager likes.
Writing on his Substack, he said: “I am told that Havertz is liked by Mauricio Pochettino.”
Phillips adds that Pochettino “admires” and “appreciates” the 23-year-old Blues forward.
He claims that Chelsea have been prepared to listen to offers for Havertz this summer. There are question marks around the attacker’s future now, though.
Havertz missed yesterday’s defeat against Brentford through injury.
The German forward divides opinion within the fanbase due to his inconsistency in the final third, but we think the team may have performed a tad better with him last night.
If Pochettino likes Havertz and creates a plan to use him, perhaps supporters should give him one more chance at Stamford Bridge.
We would definitely like to see him get the chance operating in a No.10 position every game, which will suit him a lot more than fighting alone in the striker role.
