US President Donald Trump was a huge talking point at the end of the Club World Cup final between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea got their hands on the Club World Cup trophy after beating PSG 3-0, with Cole Palmer being the star of the show.

The attacking midfielder was the best player on the pitch and really shone at the tournament.

Luis Enrique praised Palmer after the game, and the 23-year-old was the footballer who collected the Golden Ball award following the full-time whistle, which was handed to him by Trump.

Donald Trump a fan of Chelsea star Cole Palmer?

After two excellent seasons at Chelsea, Palmer has gained a lot of admirers, and Trump seems to be one of them!

One lip reading expert, Jeremy Freeman, claims that the US President told the Englishman as much while presenting him with the Golden Ball award, which is given to the best player at the tournament.

According to Freeman, who spoke to the Daily Mail, Trump told Palmer: “I’m a big fan of you. So well done you.”

Regardless of what was said, Palmer was certainly a worthy winner of the accolade. In the six appearances that the England international made for Enzo Maresca‘s side at the Club World Cup, he managed to score three goals and register two assists.

All in all, Palmer was excellent in the final against PSG and had a good tournament overall.

Cole Palmer on Donald Trump being part of trophy lift

Palmer and Trump crossed paths again when the US President went over to hand Reece James the Club World Cup trophy to lift.

He remained with the Chelsea team as they lifted up the trophy in comical scenes that left Palmer puzzled.

“I knew he was going to be here but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy so I was a bit confused,” the former Manchester City player was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

James was also surprised by Trump’s decision to stick around, but the Chelsea captain did not seem to have a problem with it, claiming that it showed how big the competition is.
