‘Magnificent’… Jason Cundy says Chelsea have a 21-year-old youngster with such a rare skill

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has quite a rare skill for a player who’s still so young.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy.

Cole Palmer is yet another big talent developed by Manchester City’s academy in recent years, but he decided to move away from the Etihad Stadium in the summer to pursue more regular first-team football.

Thankfully for Chelsea, the 21-year-old attacker took the bold step of moving to London to join up with Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

Rare skill

Jason Cundy believes that Palmer is quite unique as a big leader at such a young age.

“There’s something about him. He’s got this leadership quality you don’t often see in young players… He was magnificent [against Manchester City],” Cundy told talkSPORT (10:40pm, 13 November).

We’ve definitely spotted this leadership aura around the summer signing, too!

Despite being only 21, he’s muscled his way to the top of the conversation to become Chelsea’s penalty taker. It looks like he’s the one desperate to lead this XI as well with this mature performances.

Chelsea do possess a squad right now with a very young average age, so it’s only good news if some of them start developing quickly.

Cole Palmer wise beyond his years

First of all, Palmer’s footballing ability looks well beyond that of a 21-year-old. It’s perhaps not the biggest surprise that he stands out after being coached under Man City’s Pep Guardiola in recent times.

On top of that, there’s a calmness and a presence about Palmer that he’s immediately brought to the Chelsea line-up. It’s a real bonus to have that composed head in the final third of the pitch.

Speaking via talkSPORT (7:54am, 15 November), Dean Saunders said he would have loved to play alongside Palmer in his career. We suspect a lot of his Chelsea teammates are really enjoying his company right now, including the likes of Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson.

It’s going to be exciting to see if Palmer returns after the international break with an extra spring in his step after being involved with Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
