Manchester United actually wanted to sign 24-year-old before he joined Chelsea this summer

Reports have claimed that Manchester United were actually keen on signing Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic this summer.

According to the Evening Standard, they were priced out of a move for the then-MLS star before he found himself making the move to Stamford Bridge.

Petrovic is reportedly in line to make his Chelsea debut tonight, as the Blues return to action in the EFL Cup.

While Mauricio Pochettino has hinted he is looking to go strong for the domestic cup game against Blackburn Rovers tonight, it has been claimed that a change between the sticks could be seen.

This is likely as a result of him not yet being handed a start since he made his move to West London from across the pond.

Recent reports though have claimed that he is still more than happy at his new club, and despite the club’s bad form he will not be regretting that he did not end up at Old Trafford.

Things are hardly any better there right now, as they continue to endure embarrassing results both at Old Trafford and away from home.

This has seen Mason Mount come in for criticism after he decided to make the move away from his boyhood club during the summer.

Both sides were reportedly interested in Andre Onana over the summer, before the former Inter Milan man made the move to join up with Erik ten Hag’s side.

It is fair to say so far that the Blues will not be too upset that they did not sign the Cameroon international, given his difficult start to life in both the Premier League and Champions League.

It remains to be seen whether Petrovic gets the nod tonight at Stamford Bridge, and if he is ready to compete with Sanchez for a place in the starting side on a regular basis.
