It remains to be seen whether incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso will get the opportunity to utilise Marc Cucurella, although the current star has been told good things about his potential future boss.

There is so far no clarity over Cucurella’s future, after he grew frustrated that the Blues are going to miss out on European football next season.

All of Spain’s big sides are interested in Cucurella, although his sole focus right now will be on competing with his nation at the World Cup.

If you’re the president of a football club, who do you hire first: Jose Mourinho or Xabi Alonso?🤔

Marc Cucurella has heard good things about Xabi Alonso

Despite being on international duty, the left-back was asked about whether he had been able to speak to Alonso yet, and whether that had an effect on his thoughts.

He told Marca: “Yes. I’ve spoken with him, and he really inspired a lot of confidence in me. Then, in the end, I also spoke to Grimaldo about him, and Borja too, and they spoke very highly of him. So, the project… It seems like it could be a good thing.”

There is general excitement surrounding the appointment of Alonso, with many fearing the Blues didn’t have the ability to convince the top candidates to join them still.

The treatment of Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior has not been perceived well by those in the game, and the former is set to return to the game as Manchester City manager next season.

Alonso wants to keep Cucurella

It has been reported that Cucurella is not currently on the list of untouchables at Stamford Bridge, which includes the likes of Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Reece James.

However, this is likely because he has made it clear he is exploring his options. Enzo Fernandez is in the same boat too, not named as an untouchable.

Despite this, it has already been stated that Alonso wants to keep Cucurella, making that clear before he even took over.

Even if he does depart, there should be no concern, with Jorrel Hato vying for a spot in the starting side after his excellent second half of the campaign.
