Marcel Desailly has tipped one player to take his game to the next level after leaving Chelsea in the recent summer transfer window.
There was a huge turnover of the Chelsea squad in the summer, which included selling a number of individuals. In particular, the Blues got rid of several academy graduates to help them with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
One of the high-profile exits saw Conor Gallagher, 24, leave to join Atletico Madrid. The England midfielder moved to La Liga in a £34m transfer (The Guardian) and has started well for Diego Simeone’s side.
Gallagher scored his first goal for his new club last weekend in a 3-0 league win against Valencia, plus he came off the bench last night in Atletico’s victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League group stages.

Marcel Desailly verdict on Conor Gallagher transfer
According to former Chelsea star Marcel Desailly, Gallagher has made an excellent decision by joining Atletico in Spain. He believes that the box-to-box central midfielder can become an even better player, too.
When discussing Gallagher’s move to Madrid, Desailly told beIN SPORTS: “He chose a good club because the discipline that Simeone is asking of his individual players and the collective will help him to go to another level. He’s a good player.”

The Chelsea midfield
Now that Gallagher has left, Chelsea’s midfield certainly has a bit less running power in it. The Englishman was an important player last season at Stamford Bridge, so moving him on has annoyed a section of the fanbase.
We’re not surprised to see Gallagher start well in Spain and anticipate him becoming a cult hero.
As for Chelsea, they do still have so much talent in the centre of the park. Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall provide great options. It’s worth noting that the team is using Cole Palmer in the No.10 position this season, too.
