Most Chelsea supporters won’t know a lot about new signing Mathis Amougou, but he’s just done a Q&A with the club that will help them get to know him better.
Chelsea wrapped up the signing of Mathis Amougou, 19, on deadline day of the winter transfer window by buying him from Saint-Etienne.
Amougou is already training with Chelsea’s first-team squad, so hopefully a club debut is just around the corner.
The teenage central midfielder played 17 first-team games this campaign for French Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne before his mid-season transfer move.

Mathis Amougou names favourite Chelsea player ever in Q&A
During a Q&A posted by Chelsea’s official YouTube channel, Amougou answered a load of questions about himself.
We’ve picked out some of the most interesting responses from the new signing, including who his favourite Blues player of all time is.
- Q: Your football idol growing up?
A: “Neymar.”
- Q: Favourite Chelsea player of all time?
A: “Eden Hazard.”
- Q: Your best position?
A: “Central midfield.”
- Q: Your best football attribute?
A: “Intelligence.”
- Q: Closest comparison to you as a player?
A: “Nobody… I’d say, me, myself.”
- Q: First thing you thought when you signed for Chelsea?
A: “Incredible to be honest… a dream.”
Initial rumours suggested that Amougou could immediately be loaned to Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, but he’s gone straight into Enzo Maresca’s senior group.
We suspect it will be a significant step up for the youngster during his first taste of English football. However, the fact that the Blues are light in the centre of the park could mean he’s needed to help out immediately.
Amougou described it as an “honour”to join Chelsea. Fans will be eager to see what he’s got when he gets on the pitch and represents them for the first time.

Eden Hazard legacy is timeless
It’s pretty clear that Eden Hazard, who’s now retired, left a special legacy behind at Chelsea. He lit up English football during a very successful seven-year spell with the Blues between 2012-2019.
Like many others, Amougou mentioned the Blues legend as an icon of his.
Pedro Neto said Hazard was his Chelsea hero growing up because of the winger’s skill and impact on the football pitch. Meanwhile, Romeo Lavia said he would’ve loved to play alongside Hazard.
It seems like Cole Palmer is the latest Chelsea ace to take up the responsibility and pressure as the star player at the football club.
