Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Chelsea are waiting to hear back how serious Romeo Lavia’s new injury actually is.

Speaking in Friday’s press conference, Mauricio Pochettino provided an update on the fitness of Romeo Lavia.

Apparently, the 19-year-old midfielder was doing well in training during the recent international break.

However, a twisted ankle means he’s now unavailable again and still patiently waiting to make his Chelsea debut.

“We’re really disappointed because he was training really well last week. In the international break, he twisted his ankle,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Chelsea’s X account.

“We hope it’s not a big issue. It’s a sad situation because he was nearly fit to be involved with the team. We need to wait for the assessment and hope it’s not a big issue for him.”

Lavia was an exciting addition this summer from Southampton, where he enjoyed a strong debut season of top-flight football last year.

However, the £45,000-a-week star (Capology) has been really unlucky since the move and is yet to get on the field for a matchday squad.

We’re hopefuly this ankle setback isn’t anything serious. However, The Daily Mail recently claimed that Lavia could end up missing as much as six weeks.

Incidentally, Lavia is named on Chelsea’s official website as one of the nine first-team players with injuries ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Bournemouth.

Lavia is missing a great opportunity to try force his way into the Chelsea XI while Pochettino is still learning his best line-up.

Fortunately, the midfield department at the club is strong and there’s plenty of options available still.

The likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Conor Gallagher and Lesley Ugochukwu are all competing to start in the centre of the park.
