Mauricio Pochettino has told Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly to stop making regular visits to the dressing room when he will expected to be in charge of the team next season, according to journalist Julian Laurens.
Boehly and Behdad Eghbali’s visit to the Chelsea dressing room after the defeat to Brighton a couple of weeks ago caught a lot of attention.
Interestingly, Chelsea goalkeeper Arrizabalaga, who insisted that he did not mind the visits, revealed that it was a regular occurrence under the ownership.
The Telegraph later claimed that Boehly made a speech in which he described the situation as “embarrassing”.
There is hardly any Chelsea fan that would disagree with that, but for a club co-owner to do it directly to the players is just not very common.
French journalist Laurens, however, claims that Pochettino has made it clear to Boehly that he would not want it to happen under his management.
“I’m told that they addressed that in the many interviews that Pochettino had with Boehly and the sporting directors,” Laurens told ESPN FC when speaking about Chelsea co-owners’ regular visits to the dressing room.
“That was addressed and rightly so, I think. [Boehly] knows that Pochettino’s personality doesn’t allow any kind of interference from the ownership or anything like that. This is not how he works.
“I think he was very, very clear on that.”
It would be quite a surprise if Boehly and Eghbali agreed to it, however.
The pair have been very hands-on with their approach since the takeover.
While they would likely want to avoid unnecessary attention, too, the fact that they still made the trip to the dressing room after the second-leg defeat to Real Madrid despite the headlines suggested that they like to be involved directly.
