Journalist Dean Jones has now claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is now not just concerned about the striker position at Chelsea.

He told GiveMeSport that the manager is worried about the depth he has at centre-back, among talk that one of their stars there could be on the move at the end of the season.

There is a lot of talk that Thiago Silva is going to be on the move when his contract runs out, with a return to Brazil on the cards.

His importance on the side is clear to see at the age of 39 though, with him putting in an imperious performance in yesterday’s win over Brighton.

Jones has claimed that the manager is worried about a lack of depth in that role, with transfer rumours already forming.

He said: “Chelsea’s centre-back search for 2024 could coincide with Thiago Silva stepping away from the Premier League to end his career at Fluminense.

Pochettino concerned about centre-backs

“There is plenty of chat around who Chelsea might turn to next, with talk around Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi growing recently, and it is true that Pochettino is slightly concerned about whether he has good enough depth in the position. Yet an issue that needs to be cleared up is whether 39-year-old Silva is going to stay or go.

“There is a growing sense among some insiders that this could turn out to be his final season at Chelsea. He has a level of experience that is vital at the moment but as this team enters the next phase it is felt next year might be the perfect time to move on.”

Benoit Badiashile has now made two consecutive starts as he steps up his recovery, while Levi Colwill is also back after his brief shoulder injury.
