Reports have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is now really keen for Chelsea to keep hold of Ian Maatsen.

According to Football365, the Blues may still end up selling the Dutchman in January as a result of him not signing a new deal.

Maatsen has emerged this season as a regular option off the bench to feature just about anywhere on the pitch.

He has played all across the frontline behind the striker, despite plying his trade for the majority of his career as a left-back.

This has followed what was a remarkable pre-season campaign over in the United States. While the Blues went unbeaten, Maatsen was one of the stars of the show.

Nevertheless, there was still talk over his future as the transfer window began to drag towards an end.

On deadline day, they accepted a bid from Burnley for his services, with them more than aware of his qualities after having him on loan last season.

However, the 21-year-old did not move despite a fee north of £30m being agreed, and this then brought hopes that he would commit his future to Stamford Bridge with a new contract.

This is yet to happen as of yet, leaving the door open to him being sold in January with his contract in its final year.

It has now been claimed that Pochettino is keen for Chelsea to keep Maatsen, with him utilising him frequently up to now.

With a number of options currently at the club in his strongest position, there are no guarantees the Dutchman will remain in West London at the end of this season.
