Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk needs a late fitness test before tomorrow’s game against Luton Town.

That has been confirmed by Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea travel to Luton Town on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League for their final game of 2023.

The Blues will be looking to build some momentum after the midweek victory over Crystal Palace, but they’re running into a Luton side on a two-game winning streak themselves.

For context, Chelsea did beat Luton 3-0 earlier in the season during the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge. Raheem Sterling (two) and Nicolas Jackson were on the scoresheet in that game.

Chelsea fitness test

Pochettino has shared in his pre-match press conference that Mykhailo Mudryk is a possible doubt to play this weekend versus Luton.

The 22-year-old winger’s scored in two of his last three Chelsea appearance, so it would be a real blow if he’s unavailable tomorrow through injury.

When asked about Mudryk’s fitness and a possible ankle injury, Pochettino responded via Football.London: “We need to assess with Mudryk.”

Mykhailo Mudryk injury

We’ll keep our fingers crossed that Mudryk’s injury concern isn’t serious.

The left-winger has definitely found a bit of form in recent weeks, with his goals rubbing off on his overall play.

You could criticise the Ukraine international at times in 2023 for being invincible for large parts of games. In addition, he doesn’t always exploit his blistering pace and can be too safe on the ball.

However, we’re starting to see the potential and real quality of the forward in recent performances.

Speaking via The Rest Is Football podcast this week, Gary Lineker admitted that he’s really starting to rate Mudryk because of some recent displays.

It would be typical of Chelsea’s season for a player to pick up an injury when they’re finding some rhythm.
