Mauricio Pochettino has now shared that one of his players was quick to send him a message after Chelsea were defeated in EFL Cup earlier this week.
He claimed in his pre-match press conference that Moises Caicedo was quick to speak to him after their 1-0 loss in the semi-final first leg to Middlesbrough.
Caicedo was one of the better performers on a day where nothing seemed to go right for Chelsea as far as the final third is concerned.
However, he hasn’t escaped criticism for his part in the goal they conceded, with pundits quick to point out how he lost his man in the penalty area.
Nevertheless, there was plenty of anger amongst supporters when they were defeated by the Championship side, with those inside the stadium visibly fuming.
Pochettino has now looked to stress that the tie is not over, and Caicedo had looked to help ease any fears of embarrassment regarding the team they had lost to.
What Caicedo said to Pochettino
He said: “It’s the first half. Because after only 90 minutes we are losing. If you see how many Premier League teams have gone out of cup competitions to Middlesbrough. [Moises] Caicedo was telling me ‘oh we lost last season to Middlesbrough with Brighton’.
“Many Premier League teams when they play in the cup there, they lose. It is the first leg. We are disappointed though. We are Chelsea, we can’t afford these types of games. But it is important to realise we are still alive.”
Caicedo is almost certainly going to be handed a start again tomorrow when the Blues return to Premier League action with the West London derby against Fulham.
Pochettino has also handed supporters a big boost when it comes to injuries, with him already claiming that Ben Chilwell and Benoit Badiashile are both going to be involved in some way or another.
