Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has been one of the best midfielders in the world this season, and the stats really prove it.

He has been a key player for Enzo Maresca in the current campaign, not missing a single Premier League game so far.

In fact, Caicedo has actually started all 27 of Chelsea‘s top-flight fixtures this term, though he is in danger of being suspended for the London derby against Arsenal later this month.

Caicedo will be handed a two-match ban if he picks up another yellow card versus Leicester City on Sunday, which would be his 10th of the Premier League campaign.

Moises Caicedo and Ola Aina make top five for possession won

Since arriving in England, Caicedo has proven to be a ball-winning machine, and this season has been no different.

John Terry recently overlooked Caicedo when naming his top four Chelsea players of the campaign, but the 23-year-old has been excellent in midfield, constantly regaining possession for his side.

According to WhoScored, Caicedo has won possession back 159 times this term. In Europe’s top five leagues, only Pedri has done that more.

Nottingham Forest defender and former Chelsea player Ola Aina also ranks high for that statistic. He comes in at fifth after winning possession on 150 occasions.

In the Premier League, Caicedo is in the top five as well for long pass accuracy, registering a 61% success rate.

All in all, the Ecuadorian is such an important midfielder for this Chelsea side. They really cannot afford for him to get booked against Leicester on Sunday and then miss the Arsenal game.

Chelsea should consider re-signing Ola Aina this summer

Full-back has been a bit of an issue for Maresca this season. While right-back Reece James is currently fit, he has spent a lot of time in the stands because of injury.

On the other side, Renato Veiga does not seem to be completely content with life at Chelsea, with the Portuguese joining Juventus on loan in January.

Ultimately, the Blues may need to sign a new full-back in the summer, and Aina could be perfect. The Nigeria international can play at right-back, left-back and at 28, he would bring experience to this very young Chelsea squad.

He will not cost Chelsea anything either, as his contract at Forest is set to expire at the end of the season. Bringing him back to Stamford Bridge could be very smart business.
