Moises Caicedo shares the personal target he achieved during Chelsea’s win over Liverpool

Moises Caicedo would have been delighted with his goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Liverpool over the weekend.

Caicedo‘s goal was a long-range effort that gave Chelsea the lead before Cody Gakpo managed to equalise in the second half.

Thankfully for Caicedo and the rest of the Chelsea team, though, Estevao Willian was able to pop up in the 95th minute and score the winner for Enzo Maresca‘s side.

Declan Rice is still better than Caicedo, according to Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, but many will disagree with that statement following the Ecuadorian’s latest performance.

Moises Caicedo has made it his goal to score from outside the box for Chelsea

Caicedo’s goal in the Liverpool win was a rocket from outside the box, and the midfielder has revealed that he made scoring goals like that one his aim for the season.

Speaking to NBC Sports’ Pro Soccer Talk after the game, Caicedo said: “I’m just working for sure, I want to score goals to help the team, it was a great goal. I told myself this season I had to score goals from outside and I did it.”

Understandably, the 23-year-old has been a huge talking point following that match. As well as Carragher, former Manchester United defender Gary Neville also discussed Caicedo.

In contrast to his ex-England teammate, though, Neville does think Caicedo is the best midfielder in the Premier League.

He will have another opportunity to shine after the international break when Chelsea face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Given the form that they are currently in, you would back the former Brighton & Hove Albion man to do just that.

Moises Caicedo on Chelsea’s title chances

Despite disappointing results against Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United, Chelsea are only five points behind league leaders Arsenal.

After the Liverpool game, Caicedo was asked whether Chelsea are in the title race. In response, the Ecuador international said: “It’s too early to say. For sure we want to win the Premier League but we’re all step-by-step because it’s Premier League and is tough but we want to do our best in this Premier League this season.”

While Maresca’s men have just proven that they can beat the best team in the league, Chelsea are lacking a few key ingredients for a title charge.

They probably need to add a new goalkeeper, a new centre-back and some more experience to their squad before they are ready to challenge Liverpool and Arsenal at the top.
