Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has just made an interesting comment about what it’s like coming up against Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo.
In the current Chelsea squad, you could argue that Moises Caicedo has had the biggest turnaround. The 23-year-old midfielder had a really tough debut year with the Blues during the 2023/24 season, but many will agree he’s been the club’s best performer during his second campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking back in December, Gary Neville hailed Caicedo’s turnaround at Chelsea that has seen him recapture the form that led to his £115m signing from Brighton.
As for Morgan Rogers, the attacking midfielder has gone from strength to strength since he moved to Villa Park from Middlesbrough in February 2024. In this current season, the England international has 14 goals and 12 assists in 46 Villa appearances across all competitions.

Morgan Rogers admits he couldn’t get past Moises Caicedo
Villa star Rogers, 22, has showed huge respect to Chelsea midfielder Caicedo in a recent interview by naming him as one of his toughest ever opponents.
Rogers told Sky Sports Premier League: “I didn’t play against him (Caicedo) much this year because of positions we played. Last year, played him at home, he’s quick, strong. I’ll be honest, I couldn’t get past him.”
Rogers has tormented a lot of Premier League players since his introduction to top-flight football, but Caicedo is one of the very best in the business at what he does. The all-action defensive midfielder is so impactful for Chelsea both in and out of possession.
When he was younger, Caicedo idolised N’Golo Kante and Claude Makelele, two former legendary Chelsea midfielders, and you can see shades of their game in his. If he can get anywhere near to their respective levels, the Blues have a truly special players on their hands.
Earlier in the season, Chelsea’s hierarchy were delighted with Caicedo and felt justified that he was beginning to live up to his potential.

Moises Caicedo is the Premier League’s best midfielder this season
In statistic gathered by DataMB, Caicedo is ranked as the best performing midfielder in the Premier League for the 2024/25 season so far.
The eye test will tell you that Caicedo has been formidable in Chelsea colours this term. It’s good to see that the statistics support that, too.
The Ecuador international shines in a deep-lying midfield role when he plays there in the absence of teammate Romeo Lavia. Alternatively, he’s just as effective in a box-to-box No 8 position, where he can break up play all over the park.
With Caicedo’s football intelligence, power and speed, he must be a nightmare opponent to face.
