Last night saw Chelsea players take part in their final international fixtures of 2024, ahead of their return to their club.
It has been an up and down week away from Stamford Bridge for the majority of the first team. Robert Sanchez frustrated Chelsea fans with his performance for Spain.
There was praise for Noni Madueke’s showing for England, as he looks to hold on to his place in the Premier League starting XI.
The centre of midfield is a position where there is plenty of competition, so much so that Enzo Fernandez has dropped to the bench as of late.
Enzo Fernandez stars for Argentina

Despite joining for what was a club record fee at the time, not everyone has been convinced of the World Cup winner’s credentials in his near two years here so far.
He has looked hungry to prove why he should be given more time in recent weeks, and he carried this on with a strong display in Argentina’s 1-0 win over Peru last night.
TycSport were full of praise for the Chelsea man, stating he was one of the better performers in the game.
They said: “Constant, dynamic, with an agile touch and becoming an axis. One of the best of the game.”
Chelsea’s midfield fitness crisis
Maresca could be hoping now to be bringing Fernandez back into the starting line-up at Stamford Bridge as soon as this weekend when they take on Leicester City.
Romeo Lavia was forced to pull out of international duty due to a hamstring issue, with there yet to be any confirmation over how long he will miss.
Fernandez and Moises Caicedo both played their final international games last night, meaning they will surely not be at 100% by the time the early kick-off on Saturday comes around.
This could see the boss forced to turn to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for the first time as a starter in the Premier League. He would be coming up against his former club if he was to get the nod.
If he was to find the net, Dewsbury-Hall has already said that he will not celebrate what would be his first league goal for Chelsea.
