Gary Neville has claimed on Twitter that Todd Boehly’s sporadic approach during this transfer window hasn’t helped Chelsea.
The Blues fell to their second defeat of the season at St. Mary’s as they conceded twice in the first half to lose 2-1, despite opening the scoring through Raheem Sterling.
Three new signings were on display last night, however there could be a couple more at Thomas Tuchel’s disposal before this weekend’s London derby with West Ham United.
Wesley Fofana is expected to be announced as a Chelsea player today, while negotiations are still at a knife edge for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
There have also been reports in the last 24 hours that the Blues are getting close to agreeing a shock deal for Josko Gvardiol, although it seems as if he wouldn’t be available until next season.
Neville slams Boehly’s antics
The sporadic nature to the business and lack of speed in getting any deal over the line will no doubt have annoyed fans who have seen their side endure a below-average start to the campaign.
Neville seems to take this side too, with him replying to John Terry on Twitter that his antics are going to continue to cost the team.
He said: “Your man Todd Woodward needs to stop wandering round like a kid in a sweet shop!”
In a different tweet, he said: “It’s just scattergun and unsustainable. I doubt this approach will go well.”
There has felt like an element of randomness towards some of the club’s business this summer. For example, when deep in the search for a centre-back, the club landed on Marc Cucurella, who is no doubt brilliant but equally specialises in a role the Blues are already well-equipped in.
With the transfer window shutting tomorrow, it is sure to be a big couple of days for the American owner in his first window in charge.
