Nemanja Vidic has explained why he’s a big fan of RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, who’s been linked this year as a Chelsea transfer target.

Josko Gvardiol, who turned 21 in January, is currently one of the world’s best young centre-backs.

The left-footer has been a key player for German club side Leipzig in the past couple of years. Also, he’s now a key player at international level with Croatia.

The Times claimed last month that Chelsea have renewed interest in Gvardiol and could be trying to sign him this summer.

In addition, 90min says that Leipzig have set an asking price of £75million for Gvardiol.

Retired player Vidic, who’s one of the greatest centre-halves to play in the Premier League, really likes Leipzig’s rising star.

In particular, the former Manchester United defender picked out his aggression and quality on the ball.

When discussing Gvardiol, Vidic told FIVE’s YouTube channel: “At the World Cup, the Croatian defender, he was great,”

“He was good on the ball. Aggressive. You can see he likes to take the ball from [attackers]. I like that. He likes to defend.

“Like I said before about [Lisandro] Martinez. He likes to take the ball. That’s his job. You can see, he can tackle and can fight. But, when he has the ball, then he wants to play. Gvardiol is someone I really like.”

Chelsea should be looking at the centre-backs on their books before deciding they need to spend big in that area of the pitch.

The Blues currently have the likes of Wesley Fofana, Thiago Silva, Kalidou Koulibaly and Benoit Badiashile available in the heart of defence. We’re excited to see youngster Levi Colwill return from his loan next season, too.

Gvardiol is developing into one of the top defenders around at such a young age, but Chelsea have to be selective in where they recruit this summer.
