Chelsea fans certainly got an element of enjoyment from the end of the season after their arch-rivals Arsenal were defeated in the Champions League final by PSG.

The Blues were soundly beaten by the eventual winners in the Round of 16, and were forced to watch the biggest club game of the season from home.

Chelsea’s social media team took minutes to take a swipe at their rivals by reminding them that they are the only team from London to have won the Champions League.

When asked in the post-game press conference following victory in game one about Arsenal’s defeat, he added his own shot to the mix to defend his beloved Chelsea.

He told ESPN: “Arsenal is not humble. Have they ever won a Champions League? How long have they been around? They never won that? Okay. London’s blue, never red. Up the Chels.”

Chelsea got the short-term enjoyment, but will be well aware they are going into next season without any European honours to play for.

No European football for Xabi Alonso

Some have argued that this could be an advantage for Xabi Alonso as he prepares to take over at Stamford Bridge for next season.

The issues come in the financial department. A season without revenue from Europe could see them forced into a big sale during this transfer window.

Enzo Fernandez is the most likely contender to depart this summer, with Real Madrid very keen on bringing him in.
