Alan Shearer has named the Chelsea player he believes the club must show extreme patience with moving forward.

When you look at the squad assembled by Chelsea in recent windows, it’s extremely young and built for the future. Therefore, inconsistency and teething problems are to be expected to a certain extent.

OptaJoe claims that during Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, Chelsea picked the second youngest team ever on a Premier League opening day.

While Blues head coach Enzo Maresca is settling into his new environment, he’s also got to find a tune out of this talented young group.

Alan Shearer asks for patience at Chelsea with Nicolas Jackson

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has just launched an interesting defence of Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson.

When discussing Jackson on The Rest Is Football, Shearer said: “They are going to have to be really patient with him because he is very raw. There is no doubt about his ability there. It’s going to take time for that to come out in full.

“Whether they can wait and whether they can be as patient as they are going to have to be remains to be seen, whether they bring in a forward between now and the end of the transfer window, there’s talk about [Victor] Osimhen going in there. I think to get where they want to go, Chelsea, they need a big-hitter up top.”

Does Nicolas Jackson deserve more time?

When you see what Jackson did as Chelsea’s main striker last season – 17 goals in 44 games during his first year in English football – it should give you real encouragement. The 23-year-old attacker definitely merits another year in the Blues squad.

However, there’s no denying that the £32m star (The Guardian) isn’t ruthless in front of goal. Speaking via ESPN recently, Craig Burley highlighted Jackson’s not a natural finisher.
