Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea manager Graham Potter has no plans for Gabriel Slonina to leave the club on loan this month.

The USA international is back with the Blues after spending the first half of the season back on loan in the MLS.

He was playing for his former side Chicago Fire, continuing to get first team experience at his young age.

His best experience yet however may have come earlier this week.

The 18-year-old made his first appearance for the United States national team, where his performance caught note for a sensational save he made.

There had been reports that the club were considering loan offers for Slonina in an attempt to get him more first team minutes, with the Championship being the reported potential destination.

However, Romano has now claimed that there is no intention for him to leave on loan, with him expected to continue being part of the squad.

Slonina to stay at Chelsea

He said: “Understand Chelsea have no plans for Gabriel Slonina to leave on loan until the end of the season. He’s expected to stay & keep working with the team.

“He became the youngest goalkeeper to debut for USA last night, also with an important save.”

The goalkeeper position at Stamford Bridge is one which has very little security over it for the future.

It is unlikely that either Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy will be the long-term options for the club under Potter.

There have been links to some Premier League goalkeepers, with David Raya being the most recent.

He has reportedly continued to reject deals of a new contract with Brentford, and will likely be available for a slashed price at the end of the season due to his contract beginning to wind down.
