‘Not up to it’: TalkSPORT pundit claims 22-year-old Chelsea player is not good enough

Nicolas Jackson isn’t good enough for Chelsea right now.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Andy Jacobs.

Nicolas Jackson, 22, is still trying to win over plenty of doubters during his debut year at Stamford Bridge.

The centre-forward’s scored three goals in 11 games so far this season, which is pretty frustrating when you look back to the chances in front of goal he’s missed.

Chelsea scapegoat

We’ll agree that there’s big question marks around Jackson right now, who’s very hit and miss with his performances.

However, the 22-year-old’s not the only problem and doesn’t deserve widespread criticism on an extreme level. There’s a good chance that the youngster improves and fulfils his potential in the years to come.

TalkSPORT pundit Andy Jacobs has been pretty stern with his latest assessment of Chelsea’s striker.

When discusing Jackson, Jacobs told talkSPORT: “He’s so flimsy. Who looked at that bloke and thought this is a guy who can play in the Premier League? It’s just embarrassing.

“It’s not his fault that he isn’t up to it, he’s just not up to it.”

Nicolas Jackson form

There’s no doubt that Jackson’s form has been up and down in the opening months of the campaign, but the one constant is struggling to finish chances.

The young forward, along with his club teammates, endured a very frustrating Saturday in the 2-0 home defeat to Brentford in the Premier League. We think Mauricio Pochettino’s side could have played another 90 minutes and still not found a goal.

There’s certainly a responsibility on Jackson to do more in the final third, but a lot of his movement and work rate does usually catch the eye.

Speaking via TNT Sports 2 (3:10pm, 28 October), Peter Crouch suggested Jackson may not be the long-term answer for Chelsea in the No 9 position.

We can still see a big role for him to play in the Blues squad. It would be great to have him as a second striker option to play off of an experienced frontman.

Let’s hope he gets the chance tomorrow night to try build up some momentum in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup Round of 16 tie at home to Championship club Blackburn Rovers.
