Micah Richards has claimed on the BBC Football Daily podcast that Chelsea should definitely be signing Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.
It has been reported that the Blues have approached the final stages of signing the 23-year-old on loan until the end of the season.
The news comes after he seemed to make it clear to the La Liga side that he wanted to leave following an uninspiring few years at the club.
His potential to become one of the best in the world has been stunted due to the chosen playing style of the club he is playing for.
He attempted to rectify that to any potential suitors during the World Cup, however, with him putting in a number of impressive performances on a personal level.
Nevertheless, Portugal were knocked out of the World Cup at the quarter-final stage to Hakim Ziyech’s Morocco.
Richards praises Felix transfer
While where he will fit in to Graham Potter’s side is not yet clear, Richards has claimed that the potential signing would certainly strengthen the Blues.
He said: “You asked me if he’s going to improve them, yeah I think he’s going to help improve them. But does it solve their striker issue? No it doesn’t because he’s more of the same but at least he’s a player of really good quality. Would I bring him in to Chelsea? Of course I would.”
It has been reported that Felix will sign an extension to his deal at Atletico, with it unclear what that means for his future.
He is still rated heavily by those at the Spanish club, with club president Enrique Cerezo describing him as ‘magnificent’.
Whether he plays up front or behind the striker, Felix has certainly showed in the past he has the quality to make the desired difference to a team like Chelsea.
