After Joao Felix, Chelsea are still hoping to sign 13-goal striker to totally transform their attack – Romano

Chelsea are reportedly planning on adding Marcus Thuram along with Joao Felix to their stuttering forward line.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Stamford Bridge chain of command have not altered their tactics to try and sign Thuram, despite the imminent arrival of Felix from Atletico Madrid.

The Portugal international is set to join the South West London side on loan for the rest of the season, having made a verbal agreement yesterday.

Felix has been brought in to give Graham Potter’s attack a new lease of life.

In 18-matches under Potter, Chelsea have scored just 22 goals.

This is not the return of a team worthy of playing European football, let alone competing in the Premier League.

Especially with the firepower on disposal at the club.

Whilst Felix might be able to add an extra spark to the solemn front men, Chelsea are seemingly not settled upon recruiting just one fresh face.

“This is not going to change the Chelsea plan for example for players like Marcus Thuram,” explained Romano on Felix’s imminent transfer from Atletico.

“He (Thuram) is a centre striker and they want him as one of the opportunities for the January window.”

Potter could certainly benefit from having another number nine available to him.

Armando Broja is out injured for the long-term, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang cannot be relied upon anymore, whilst new arrival David Datro Fofana might be loaned out this month.

Therefore, a dependable figure to front Chelsea’s attack would be a handy addition.

Thuram might not be the stellar name fans are calling out for, but he has a proven track record in front of goal.

He is up to 13 for the campaign in Borussia Monchengladbach colours, and is second only to Cobham-bound Christopher Nkunku in the Bundesliga scoring charts.

The France international was excellent in the World Cup final, providing the assist for one third of Kylian Mbappe’s hattrick.

This display in Qatar may have persuaded Chelsea to chase after Thuram even harder than before.
