Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has claimed that Chelsea manger Mauricio Pochettino made sure he grabbed Cole Palmer at half-time last night.
He took to Twitter to state that the boss was keen to address something about the player’s game after what had been a very impressive first half.
Palmer was making his first Premier League start for the Blues, after performing well off the bench on a number of occasions.
He was handed an opportunity to feature from the beginning in the EFL Cup last week, and took his chance as he set up the only goal of the game for Nicolas Jackson.
The £40m deadline day signing followed this up with an assist last night for one of two goals in a minute, as they beat Fulham 2-0.
Pochettino talks to Palmer
Despite the half-time lead, it emerged that Pochettino was not all smiles regarding his players.
Kinsella has claimed that there was something he wanted to resolve regarding Palmer’s game.
He said: “Cole Palmer is getting a one on one from Pochettino. He has looked very good today but he has seen something positional or tactical to resolve.”
After last night’s performance, it would be difficult for anyone to argue that Palmer should not continue as a member of the starting side.
A midfield spot looks difficult to claim permanently for now. Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are likely to not be displaced unless injured.
Conor Gallagher however was named player of the match last night for his performance in the middle, and his presence as captain has made him a favourite so far with Pochettino this season in particular.
