Journalist David Ornstein has claimed that Chelsea may have now been given a very late chance to complete one signing this month.

He told The Athletic that the proposed deal for Antonio Nusa to move to Brentford has been thrown into major doubt, and other clubs now have the chance to try and swoop in.

Nusa has been a target of the Blues since the summer, when they made a late move to bring him in.

Despite the player himself admitting he was shocked how much Chelsea bid to try and secure his services, he stayed put at Club Brugge for at least the first part of the season.

While interest from Stamford Bridge and Tottenham led the way, it was actually Brentford who surprisingly agreed a deal with the Belgian side for the youngster.

However, Ornstein has now claimed that this deal has been thrown into real doubt, potentially letting any interested parties back into the race.

Chelsea back in Nusa race

He said: “Brentford’s proposed signing of Antonio Nusa from Club Bruges has been thrown into doubt by some complications in the deal.

“An agreement was found between the two clubs and with the 18-year-old Norway international, who favoured Brentford over a host of sides after their long-term pursuit and plan for his development.

“But the transfer has not yet been finalised and appears to have taken a backwards step, potentially opening the door to a late push by other teams.”

Todd Boehly has very rarely missed a trick since coming into the club when it comes to securing young talent, and it would be surprising if the Blues did not explore this opportunity in the final few days of the teenage window.

So far, Chelsea are yet to make a permanent addition to their squad, paling in comparison to prior windows under the American.
