Opta have now calculated Chelsea’s chances of winning the Premier League title after the weekend

After a bright start to the season, Chelsea find themselves just two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Following their 4-2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion over the weekend, some have put Chelsea in contention for the title.

Jamie O’Hara has backed Chelsea to mount a challenge, though he thinks Robert Sanchez could end up letting them down.

Sanchez made two costly errors in the victory over Fabian Hurzeler’s men. Thanks to Cole Palmer’s heroics, though, the 26-year-old managed to get away with it.

Chelsea’s title chances

It is early days, so Chelsea supporters should probably not be getting carried away, despite the team’s positive results under Enzo Maresca so far.

In fact, according to Opta, the Blues only have a 0.28% chance of winning the Premier League title this season.

Champions Manchester City, who have already beaten Chelsea in the current campaign, are way out in front with a 73.38% chance.

It would be the Citizens’ fifth consecutive title, which would be some achievement. The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and possibly Chelsea, though, will be hoping to stop that.

Erling Haaland is leading the charge for City. But right now, Scott Minto is taking Palmer over Haaland following the England international’s four goals against Brighton.

Manchester City still the favourites for the title

City are just one point above Chelsea and will be without one of their most important players, Rodri, for the rest of the season.

Even so, you would still make them favourites for the Premier League crown, especially over a team like Chelsea.

They still have other quality players, the best manager in the division and plenty of experience. If City somehow fail to get over the line, then you would expect Arsenal to finish in first after how close they have come to doing so in the past two seasons.

It is probably still a bit too early for this young and inexperienced Chelsea team to become champions of England.
