Owen Hargreaves thinks Chelsea will finish in the Premier League’s top four next season with Mauricio Pochettino as the new manager.
The Blues announced on their official website this afternoon that Mauricio Pochettino is the Blues head coach, beginning the role on 1 July.
Chelsea’s owners have welcomed the 51-year-old Argentine by describing him as a “world-class coach”. Let’s hope he can now live up the hype!
Speaking to Optus Sport yesterday, Hargreaves explained he was very optimistic of Chelsea’s chances under Pochettino, who has been linked to the club’s managerial role for several weeks.
Now, everybody else can start making their predictions about how the former Tottenham boss will fare in West London.
“I think Poch will be an amazing fit for them and I think they’ll be a top-four side again next season,” Hargreaves told Optus Sport.
“They’ve got a lot of the pieces of the puzzle to sort out, a lot of sporting directors to help figure it out.
“They’ve got to sell a lot of players. But Poch will have a clear identity of how he wants to play. They’ve got some fabulous players.
“Sort the centre-forward position out, possibly a new goalkeeper, a new spine really and I think Chelsea will be right there.”
Despite not winning any silverware in England before, Pochettino has a very solid reputation here from his time with Spurs and Southampton.
We are pleased with the appointment and think this squad may be tailor-made for him, but everyone should remember just how bad this 2022/23 season has been.
You’d like to think the only way is up moving into next year. The team finished 12th, though, and there’s a gigantic gap for Pochettino to try bridge in a short pace of time.
Let’s hope Poch is given the right tools with this squad to move up the league next campaign.
