Chelsea made a number of signings during the summer transfer window, but it’s one of the club’s exits which has really caught the eye of Paul Merson.

Enzo Maresca is finally starting to get his side playing the way he wants, and the results are beginning to follow. Chelsea are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games, scoring 11 goals in the process.

Nicolas Jackson is really starting to find his feet with two goals against West Ham last time out.

Chris Sutton was full of praise for Jackson after his recent performance, which is a big difference from the criticism the African striker received from fans and pundits last season at times.

However, one decision that caused a bit of a stir was Conor Gallagher’s exit from Chelsea, as Marcel Desailly has tipped him to reach a new level at Atletico Madrid.

That isn’t the only player whose exit shocked pundits, as one other move caught the eyes of Paul Merson.

Paul Merson can’t believe Enzo Maresca let ‘top player’ leave Chelsea

The Chelsea boss has made a number of good decisions lately at Stamford Bridge, which includes sticking with Nicolas Jackson at the pinnacle of the attack.

However, Paul Merson can’t believe one decision the Chelsea boss made in the summer.

When speaking on Sky Sports News, Merson revealed his shock that Raheem Sterling was allowed to swap Stamford Bridge for Arsenal.

“I’m a big fan of Raheem Sterling. I was shocked Chelsea let him go, I really was. He was better than some of the wingers at Chelsea, or he was definitely better than one of them.

“So for me I was shocked that Chelsea let him go. So yeah I’m sure he’ll go on from there and score a few more and enjoy his time at Arsenal.”

The Raheem Sterling situation that led to his Chelsea exit

Raheem Sterling joined Arsenal on a season-long loan at the end of the summer transfer window.

It is believed that Behdad Eghbali personally sanctioned the exit of Sterling, with Arsenal paying just 30 per cent of the 29-year-old’s wages.

What really kicked things off was Sterling releasing a statement after being left out of the Blues’ squad to take on Manchester City on the opening day of the season.

It has been claimed that Enzo Maresca wanted Sterling at Chelsea, but the fact that there was no space was what caused a move away from Stamford Bridge.
