Chelsea supporters are going to be keeping a close eye on Geovany Quedna’s progress from now until he makes the move to Stamford Bridge in 2026.
The transfer policy of investing in youngsters definitely appears to be continuing under this Chelsea ownership.
Back in March, Sporting Lisbon confirmed that Chelsea have agreed to sign Geovany Quenda from them. However, the 17-year-old rising star will continue playing with the Portuguese giants before arriving in West London at the end of next season.
Like a lot of modern youngsters, the Chelsea signing is extremely versatile. The Portuguese teenager has extreme pace and plays on the wings, whether that’s as a wing-back or attacker on either flank.
Chelsea’s plan for Quenda is to use the left-footer on the left wing when he’s added to their squad in 2026, but let’s wait and see if things change before then.
Portuguese media praise Geovany Quenda after Sporting Libson performance
On Monday night, Sporting recorded a 1-1 draw at home to Braga during the huge fixture in the Portuguese top division. It’s certainly fascinating at the top of the league this season.

Quenda, who’s a regular in the league XI, started as a right wing-back in Sporting’s draw versus Braga.
The future Chelsea player received praise in the Portuguese media for his individual display. In particular, Blues fans may be intrigued to hear he was ‘important’ to his side’s defensive work without the ball.
A Bola wrote: “Quenda – 6/10. He was a winger, in a three-centre centre-back strategy, always active, showing attention in defence and assertiveness in attack. Playing on the right, with the other foot, the youngster that Chelsea had already secured had an explosive shot in the 58th minute, which Hornicek saved, and with the score already tied, he was the most dissatisfied of the Lions, also signing a galvanising play, on the right, in the 90+1 minute.”
O Jogo said: “Quenda – 6/10. He was another new addition to the starting eleven. He made a great individual move in the 16th minute. He tried another move in the 51st minute, but the move ended up going astray. He was important in helping out defensively. An excellent shot with his worst foot, his right, was saved by Hornicek in the 58th minute.”
Even though Quenda has been signed as an attacking option by Chelsea, it’s interesting to see him perform well as a wing-back. The youngster can already do a bit of everything in his game, and we’re expecting him to develop a lot more in the next year.

Quenda has been described as ‘generational’ after breaking into the Sporting first team and securing a future move to the Premier League.
He already ticks so many boxes as a footballer with his physical and technical qualities, which is why he’s a key player for one of the biggest clubs in Portugal.

For Quenda to be such a key player in Sporting’s team at his age is quite remarkable.
The teenage wide man is on the verge of racking up 50 senior appearances during his debut campaign in their main group, which is a sign of incredible consistency and trust.

We’re used to seeing youngsters slowly blooded into first-team football at most clubs, but Quenda is being allowed to develop and learn on the main stage. It’s certainly good for Chelsea that he’ll arrive next year with huge experience under his belt already.
Nani claims Quenda is “very mature” already as a footballer on the pitch, but he can still improve loads when it comes to his end product.
