Gary Lineker thinks Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has been performing extremely well this season.

Conor Gallagher, 23, has stepped into the role this year as a really important first-team star at Stamford Bridge.

The central midfielder has played in 22 of the club’s 23 games across all competitions so far, with his only absence forced through suspension versus Manchester United this month.

Chelsea’s below par campaign is summed by the fact they’re currently 10th in the Premier League table, but Gallagher’s form has been one of the big pluses in the season.

Gary Lineker impressed

Gary Lineker has provided a really positive verdict on Gallagher’s impact at Chelsea recently.

Lineker told The Rest Is Football podcast: “Conor Gallagher continues to put in a good shift for them. His numbers are really good as well actually, if you look at them.”

In fairness, the statistics do back up Lineker’s claim.

OptaJoe shared via X that Gallagher is the only player in Europe’s top five divisions this season with 20+ shots, 20+ chances created, 20+ dribbles completed, 20+ touches in the opposition box, 20+ duels won, 20+ tackles and 20+ interceptions.

Conor Gallagher form

When you hear big praise in the media, it makes rumours that Gallagher may be sold by Chelsea even more baffling.

Journalist Ben Jacobs reported via X recently that Chelsea will consider transfer offers between £45-50m for Gallagher in the New Year.

You would lose so much in and out of possession without Gallagher on the pitch.

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are high-profile midfielders still fighting to find their best form in Chelsea colours, whereas Gallagher is carrying that pressure on his shoulders and performing on a weekly basis.

Let’s hope all parties can come to an agreement to extend a deal that’s entering its final 18 months.
