Reports suggest that Graham Potter has agreed to become the next Chelsea manager after Thomas Tuchel’s sacking from the club.

According to 90min, discussions yesterday went well between the two parties, with him set to sign a deal today to take over at Stamford Bridge.

The news comes less than 24 hours after Todd Boehly made the shock decision to fire Tuchel, following the club’s 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

Although the decision is reportedly not directly related to results on the pitch, the embarrassing defeat in his 100th game in charge will hardly have helped his case.

It has been claimed that a difference in opinion was beginning to form between the new owners and the manager, with them disagreeing on topics such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Billy Gilmour and Armando Broja.

Potter agrees to become Chelsea manager

They quickly turned their attentions to Potter, who has enjoyed a sensational start to the season as Brighton manager, with the Seagulls currently sitting fourth in the Premier League.

He can also boast the joint-best defensive record in the league, with stability at the back a key feature of great Chelsea teams of the time.

90min have claimed that Potter has already shaken hands on a verbal agreement to become the next Blues manager, with him set to be in charge before this weekend’s West London derby with Fulham.

Potter appears to have beaten off competition from the likes of Mauricio Pochettino for the role, with many other candidates having far more European experience than the 47-year-old.

Pundit Jamie Carragher had even called for the former Tottenham and PSG manager to be appointed Chelsea boss, with him being out of work since being sacked by the French champions.

However, what Potter is doing despite frequently losing his best players should be enough to suggest he will be a great appointment for Chelsea.
