Chelsea star Mason Mount may reportedly need to wait a little while longer before returning from injury.

Mason Mount, who’s not played since the defeat to Tottenham at the end of February, has been absent from the club’s last four matches. He wasn’t involved with the England squad during the international break, too.

According to The Athletic, Mount’s recent absence can largely be explained by his struggles with a muscle injury next to his pubic bone.

It is understood that the 24-year-old has been training at Cobham this week as he steps up his recovery.

However, the report does say the weekend’s game against Aston Villa could come too soon for him.

Graham Potter’s side return to action on Saturday evening when they host Villa in the Premier League.

It’s a fixture between two teams languishing in mid-table right now, but there is still plenty to motivate the players.

For Chelsea’s stars, they’ll be fully aware that the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid is just around the corner. A stellar performance against Villa could help anyone force their way into the starting line-up against Madrid.

As for Villa, they’re enjoying a renaissance since Unai Emery took charge as their new manager earlier in the season.

Mount must be sick and tired of the rumours surrounding his future, so must be desperate to get back on the pitch.

However, the speculation won’t go away until a solution is found.

With the attacking midfielder’s current deal expiring in the summer of 2024, Chelsea are now in a position where they need to sort his future out.

Graham Potter has previously described Mount as “fantastic to work with”, but rumours are he could still exit Stamford Bridge.

The Times reports this week that Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich are interested in signing Mount this summer. In addition, journalist Simon Phillips claimed to GiveMeSport that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would really like to bring Mount to Anfield.
