Reports have claimed that Financial Fair Play is the only reason why Chelsea have missed out on the signing of Ivan Fresneda.
According to Record Portugal, the defender was close to joining them this summer before it emerged that they would be unable to complete the addition.
It emerged last week that the Blues were considering adding Fresneda to their ranks ahead of next season.

Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear that he is hoping for more additions to his squad before the transfer window closes later this week.
He has hinted frequently that an attacker is certainly his priority in the final few days of the summer.
This is likely as a result of the injury suffered by Christopher Nkunku during the successful pre-season tour of the United States.
Fresneda deal off due to FFP
After being one of the stars of the campaign, he picked up an injury in the final game against Borussia Dortmund which has made it unlikely that he will feature again this year.
However, another recent injury certainly could have led them to look at bringing in Fresneda late in the window.
Reece James is set to be out for a few weeks, as his injury woes continue to plague him despite being named the new club captain.

However, it has now emerged that it was financial reasons that stopped the Blues completing the deal for Fresneda. He is now already in Lisbon ahead of his transfer to Sporting.
The report goes on to say though that Chelsea will be offered the first opportunity to sign the player from the Portuguese outfit should they see fit in the future.
The quality that he is already promising in his early ‘marvellous’ career suggests that any future signing will certainly not be cheap.
