Former Premier League defender Danny Mills cannot get enough of Chelsea star Thiago Silva.
Despite being 39 years of age, Thiago Silva continues to be a key player for Chelsea, and Mills recently told Sky Sports that it is ridiculous that he is still performing at this level.
He has not missed a single game in the Premier League so far this season and got his name on the scoresheet in Chelsea’s exciting 4-4 draw with Manchester City.
Silva’s contract, however, is up at the end of the campaign and a return to Brazil could be on the horizon.
Thiago Silva is magnificent
Mills had high praise for Silva when discussing the central defender on Sky Sports.
On Silva, Mills said: “Thiago Silva, still magnificent at the age of, what is it now? Pushing 40. It’s ridiculous. He looks and plays outstanding.”
Just how good has Thiago Silva been for Chelsea this season?
Silva is still clearly one of Chelsea’s best players. It is one reason why Mauricio Pochettino has played him in every Premier League game so far.
The Blues have had injuries in central defence, with both Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana missing the start of the season.
However, the former is back but is yet to oust his team-mate out of Pochettino’s first XI.
In the City game, where Silva became the oldest player to score a goal for Chelsea, he made two interceptions. According to WhoScored, no one in the Blues’ side managed to make more on the day.
It is just one example of the Brazil international’s exceptional reading of the game, something he has to really rely on now that he does not possess the kind of pace he once had.
It is probably the only weakness is Silva’s game. He is still a grand master of defending overall, one that will be hard to replace when he eventually does leave Chelsea.
They already have players in their squad that can fill his spot. But is there an individual at the club or on the transfer market who can replace his leadership qualities and experience? Probably not.
