Alejandro Garnacho’s name was brought up in Ruben Amorim’s pre-match press conference, and the Man United manager was quick to respond.
Chelsea’s signing of Alejandro Garnacho was made possible by the deterioration of the winger’s relationship with former coach Ruben Amorim.
Last season, Garnacho made comments criticising the Portuguese manager for not starting him, which led Amorim to write off the Argentinian as a United player.
A deal was reached for £40 million to offer Garnacho a fresh start at Stamford Bridge after a long negotiation process. Ahead of Saturday’s clash, Amorim was inevitably asked about his former player.
Ruben Amorim asked about Alejandro Garnacho ahead of Chelsea clash
Amorim would have been expecting a question about Garnacho when he sat down to speak to the press on Friday.
He didn’t have much to say, but the tone and content suggest not much has changed with regards to his feelings on the 21-year-old.
He answered: “Garnacho is not our player, I’m focused on our players. I’m really happy with Mason and Cunha returning. The rest, talk to the Chelsea manager.”
There’s no love lost between Amorim and Garnacho, and he has no interest in speaking further on the matter after he forced him out of the club.
Garnacho looks likely to start against United, and he will be desperate to play well in what is sure to be a hostile environment.
Amorim will be desperate to win against Chelsea
Of course, every manager wants to win.
But this game in particular holds more weight for Amorim, whose position at the club has been thrown into question following an underwhelming start to the season.

Fans are growing impatient as United struggle to get results, and he will feel the pressure on Saturday.
If it’s a draw, it would be an okay result from a Manchester perspective, but a loss could be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Chelsea haven’t won at Old Trafford in 12 years, and one more unwanted record broken could be the catalyst for Amorim’s demise.
