Scott Minto has delivered his verdict on Chelsea’s Levi Colwill ahead of the upcoming international match between England and Greece.
Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, 21, has been called up again by England during this October break. He’s not the only player from the Blues squad in the Three Lions camp because he’s joined by club teammates Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke.
Lee Carsley’s England side host Greece on Thursday night in the first of two Nations League matches. Afterwards, they travel to Finland on Sunday evening.

Scott Minto would start Levi Colwill at left-back for England
There’s no doubt that Colwill is performing at his best as a centre-back, which is where he’s playing this season. However, the youngster’s proven for club and country that he can provide cover at left-back.
When you look at the current England group during this international period, there’s no out-and-out left-back in the group. Instead, it looks like Colwill or Rico Lewis could fill into the role.
TalkSPORT pundit Scott Minto suggests that the Chelsea ace should be used at full-back later today.
When discussing his England starting line-up to face Greece, Minto told talkSPORT: “Levi Colwill for left-back and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] for right-back or Rico Lewis for left-back and Kyle Walker for right-back.
“My thinking is I prefer square pegs in square holes. Levi Colwill is not actually a left-back but at least he’s left footed, there’s not many of those nowadays. So as Trent moves up, Levi can shuffle across so there’s three centre-halves to protect Jordan Pickford… I’m going for Levi left-back and Trent right-back.”
Chelsea must keep Levi Colwill at CB
While England may need Colwill to cover for them at left-back, there’s no way Chelsea should consider him in that role moving forward.
So far, the 21-year-old’s played every minute of the Premier League season in the centre-back position, where he’s really impressing with his composed and dominant performances. His relationship alongside Wesley Fofana is only growing stronger, too.
The Blues are fortunate to have Marc Cucurella and Renato Veiga as excellent left-back options in the squad.
When Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca maks his team selection each week, Colwill should be one of the first names picked in the heart of defence.
