Simon Jordan accuses Chelsea player of caring more about money than playing for the Blues

After failing to secure a transfer switch in the summer, Raheem Sterling is currently isolated away from Chelsea’s first-team squad because he’s not in Enzo Maresca’s plans. According to talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan, the 30-year-old winger cares more about money than playing football.

The decline of Raheem Sterling has been pretty steep ever since his move to Chelsea in 2022.

The four-time Premier League winner had two mediocre years in the Blues team before spending last term on a season-long loan at Arsenal, where he struggled for minutes.

Sterling still attracted plenty of interest during the recent transfer window, but ultimately didn’t find a new club. As a result, he’s now back at Chelsea training at Cobham away from the senior squad. It is worth noting that Sterling has continued to train well, even though he’s in a smaller group completely out of the picture.

Simon Jordan claims Raheem Sterling has chosen money over playing football

Simon Jordan certainly doesn’t have any sympathy regarding Sterling’s current situation at Chelsea. In fact, he even made the harsh accusation that the English attacker prefers the huge pay package to playing football.

Jordan said on talkSPORT: “Raheem Sterling had an opportunity to create a new narrative about himself, but did nothing.

“Done nothing, particularly for Chelsea, to justify the £48m transfer fee they paid for him. Nothing to justify the £300,000-a-week he’s on for Chelsea, besides the history of his performances somewhere else…

“He can compromise himself out of a contract and be prepared to accept less money. What he’s doing now, it would seem, is saying that the money side of things is more important than the playing side.”

While we’re not prepared to tarnish Sterling with that brush, we find it baffling he couldn’t leave Chelsea in the summer, even on another loan spell.

Gabriel Agbonlahor explained Chelsea would need to loan Sterling because of his astronomical wages on a deal that expires at Stamford Bridge in 2027.

Could Chelsea bring Raheem Sterling back into the fold?

It is quite baffling to supporters that Sterling, who earns £325,000-a-week (Spotrac), is currently at Chelsea isolated from Maresca’s squad.

Apparently, Sterling is unlikely to return to Chelsea’s squad despite failing to secure a transfer move and will continue working in the club’s bomb squad, which has unwanted players including Axel Disasi.

In fairness, the Blues are stacked in the wide areas already this season with the likes of Pedro Neto, Estevao Willian, Jamie Gittens, Tyrique George and Alejandro Garnacho.

For Sterling, we hope he can find a solution in the New Year to join a new club because it’s a shame he’s not playing competitive football for a few months. The reality is it looks like his best years are well behind him.
