Cole Palmer is doing things at Chelsea that not even Eden Hazard managed to do during his time in west London.

For the second time in his Chelsea career, Cole Palmer scored four goals in a single game over the weekend.

He put four past Brighton & Hove Albion, just as he did against Everton last season. Steve Nicol has also been impressed with Palmer’s passing.

There has now been a discussion on whether the 22-year-old is already better than Hazard.

Dean Ashton on Cole Palmer and Eden Hazard

Hazard is a Chelsea legend, helping the club to win two Premier League titles among other honours during his spell at Stamford Bridge.

In total, the 33-year-old made 352 appearances for the Blues and scored 110 goals. However, Dean Ashton thinks Palmer is already a better player than him.

When asked whether Palmer is better than Hazard on Sky Sports, the former Premier League striker said: “That’s not a nice question for a Monday! But I think he is. I think he is and will be. I think he already is and I think he will be.

“To be doing the things already and on a consistent basis, this isn’t the first game where we’ve gone and wowed about Cole Palmer.”

Is Cole Palmer a better player than Eden Hazard?

Palmer’s output at Chelsea has been insane. Last season, he scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists for the Blues.

Twenty two of his goals came in the Premier League. It is a figure that Hazard never reached when he was still a Chelsea player.

Having already scored six times this term, Palmer could easily reach the 20-goal mark again.

Not winning any major trophies at Chelsea yet, it may be too early to claim that Palmer is a superior footballer to Hazard, even if his output has been better.

The former Belgium international’s game was always more than just goals and assists, and the matches he used to win for Chelsea were absolutely huge ones.

That being said, what Palmer is doing cannot be overlooked. If his output remains this high over the next few years and Chelsea win a title or two, then there will certainly be a debate to be had, if there is not one already.
