Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed he has sources who are very confident of Chelsea getting a deal over the line this summer.

It is expected that the Blues are going to make a handful of signings this summer in order to boost the prospects of the incoming manager ahead of next season.

Enzo Maresca is set to be announced as the new manager at Stamford Bridge in the coming days, with him the chosen candidate after sacking Mauricio Pochettino last week.

The Italian was preferred to the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Kieran McKenna in what looks as if it has been a swift search to find their new head coach.

It was reported earlier this week that Chelsea are keen to back Maresca with up to 4 or 5 new signings this summer, and one of the name’s they tried to sign 12 months ago could well be one of them.

Chelsea source confident of signing Michael Olise

Phillips claimed on his Substack that he has been told by his top source that they are confident of landing Michael Olise this summer.

He said: “My top source seems pretty confident that we can and will land Olise this summer. We have been speaking to him for a year now and he was just a signature away from joining Chelsea last summer.

“His brother is already at the club and just signed a new contract, and Joe Shields really wants Chelsea to sign Olise.

“Sources would be surprised if he doesn’t arrive at Chelsea this summer, but maintain there is still an interest from Manchester United as well. Release clause around £60m this summer.”

Chelsea wanted Olise in 2023

Olise was very nearly brought in last summer for nearly half of this price, however Chelsea walked away from a deal despite triggering his release clause.

It was not all bad news though, as this opened them up to the possibility of signing Cole Palmer on deadline day, with him going on to be one of the best players in the league in his first senior campaign.
